My work has appeared in Foreign AffairsThe Nation, The Atlantic Online, Chalkbeat New York, Guernica Daily, Ms. Magazine, The Huffington Post, Reuters, The Christian Science Monitor, and The Yale Globalist. In 2011, I was awarded Yale’s John Hersey Prize in Journalism for a body of work reflecting “engagement with moral and social issues, responsible reportage, and craftsmanship.”

After reporting on public schools in New York City for Chalkbeat, I decided to try working directly with students at a single school. I now run an after school program for sixth and seventh graders in Washington Heights.

Sustaining Activism, the book I coauthored about a women’s movement in southern Brazil, was recently published by Duke University Press.
